Book Marketing & Author Promotion at Book Festivals

Book MarketingThis weekend I had the pleasure of presenting workshops on book platform building & author marketing to the annual East Texas Book Fest. The synergy available when authors, publishers, agents, editors, poets and writers intersect in person, all under one roof, is perhaps the highest value of these types of gatherings. Although attendance can be overwhelming, if we listen to one another and make room for new knowledge, I am always amazed at the freshness that can emerge in the days following a regional event.

Like moles in holes, as writers we are more usually hunkered down in our own worlds, isolated from one another, but during a festival we come up for air and see what everyone else is doing. The result for the literary community as a whole can be surprising, enriching, and collaborative in terms of connections made and ideas exchanged. We find out that we are real people, not just words on a screen, and that we are of value to one another just by who we are and what we stand for.

  1. Great festival. I presented on Plotting a Mystery Novel so missed Stephanie’s first presentation, but made the second. Even took some of the photos. Learned lots!
